Allen Ray McGrew, a 41-year-old HVAC technician from Summerville, South Carolina, tragically passed away on July 4th, 2024, after a firework he placed on his head exploded, causing fatal head injuries. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. during a neighborhood block party where McGrew was entertaining guests with a fireworks display.
According to witnesses, McGrew, dressed in a patriotic Uncle Sam costume, had been drinking for several hours before the accident. In a bid to impress the crowd, he lit a large firework and placed it on top of his head, despite pleas from family members to stop. The firework exploded immediately, causing massive head trauma that killed McGrew instantly.

McGrew's wife, Paige, described him as a patriotic and fun-loving person who cherished life and his loved ones. He was eagerly anticipating his son's upcoming marriage and was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office and the Dorchester County Coroner's Office responded to the scene and confirmed McGrew's death.
